Which image tool to reach for

The two most-confused tools here are the Compressor and the Format Converter. Compressing a JPEG at quality 70 typically cuts file size 40–60% for photographic content, but re-compressing an already-compressed JPEG visibly degrades it (generation loss). The right move is usually: convert to WebP first via the Format Converter, then ship that — WebP at quality 75 is roughly 25–35% smaller than JPEG at the same perceptual quality, per the WebP specification's reference benchmarks. PNG is the wrong format for photos; it's best for screenshots, UI assets, and anything with sharp edges.

The Resizer and Cropper are not interchangeable either. Resize changes pixel dimensions while keeping the whole image — use it when you need a specific width for a thumbnail or social post. Crop discards image area to change the aspect ratio — use it when the framing is wrong. Resizing down then cropping discards more pixels than necessary; crop first if you can.
